This project took on a life of its own amidst our other current project, Romancing the Zombie: Essays on Loving the Undead in the 21st Cenutry. While the response to that CFP was overwhelming, we were both shocked at the sheer number of proposals addressing The CW's show, iZombie. Though we were forced to exclude some outstanding essays on the show in that particular volume, we realized there was a real need for a text addressing this new, popular television series and well as the graphic novel source material: Vertigo's iZOMBIE.

While both narratives incorporate notions of romance and romantic love, the series has served to reinvigorate the zombie genre by introducing a new kind of undead. While these zombies do eat brains, they maintain the complexity inherent in human existence and attempt to retain what humanity they can in their new, undead state. This collection is now under contract with McFarland & Company, Inc., Publishers and seeks innovative chapters examinig both this breakout series and the graphic novel source material.
